This short documentary was edited using footage from the 2 hour and 50 minute documentary “The Han Dynasty – The First Empire in Flames” by Paul Cooper. The goal of this assignment was to create a 5 to 6 minute short documentary about the defeat of the Xiongnu by the Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty in China. I was given the creative freedom to highlight any story, so long as it was related to the defeat of the Xiongnu. I was able to incorporate any B roll and any audio I wanted from the film to fill in the gaps. The purpose of this assignment was to work on building skills in storytelling (having a clear through point, engaging the audience, boiling down a lot of information into a short video, etc.) both narratively and visually. I chose to focus on the major role that the Hexi Corridor and the building of the walls played in the defeat of the Xiongnu.
